Philanthropy Southwest

SAVE THE DATE for Philanthropy Southwest’s 2019 Annual Conference consistently draws several hundred trustees and staff attendees from grantmaking organizations of all types and sizes. Registration is open to trustees and staff of grantmaking organizations and provides the opportunity to connect with fellow philanthropists located or making investments in the Southwestern United States. Conference participants report that they are energized by the sessions they attend, inspired to collaborate, and motivated to find opportunities for change within their communities.

With over 30,000 nonprofits in Massachusetts, competition for funding is high. How does one get a leg up? The first step is doing one’s homework. Foundations have missions just as do nonprofits and so it is vital to the success of your proposal that you find those funders who are aligned with your organization’s program area. Google is not an effective tool for grants research as many funders still do not maintain a website. It is therefore imperative to know the key resources where you can locate reliable information. This introductory program is ideal for those who are new to the grants process or would like a brush up.

Learn the process of writing a clear, concise, and compelling foundation grant narrative. This includes both the longer “full proposal” narrative and the shorter concept paper or letter of inquiry. Tips to avoid common pitfalls, and ways to determine whether your nonprofit is “grant-ready.” Participants will have the tools necessary to tell their organization’s and program’s story in a narrative that will be compelling to funders – and increase their chances of landing more grants.

PRESENTER: Kenny Weill launched K. Weill Consulting Group in 2002, which focuses on strategic fund development for nonprofits. His practice works with Boards and executive staff on fundraising assessments, creation of actionable Fund Development Plans, case statements, appeals, online giving strategy, grant research and writing, CRM (Constituent Relationship Management) database solutions, and more. He has published articles and regularly trains, coaches and presents on fund development strategy. In 2009, Kenny co-founded NPO Connect (http://npoconnect.org), an online skill-building platform for nonprofit professionals and volunteers.
